Simone Biles

Simone Arianne Biles, /sI'moUn/baI@lz/ was born March 14, 1997. She tied Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals she won in American gymnastics and is currently the ninth highest. With 25 World Championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast to ever compete in the Gymnastics World Championships. She is considered by numerous sources to be the best gymnast ever. [5] In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Biles took home individual gold medals for the vault, all-around, and floor; bronze on the balance beam; and gold as part of the United States team, dubbed the "Final Five".At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo Biles was a participant. Biles was predicted to win at least four of the six gold medals. She was forced to withdraw from the most of the games due to issues with "the twisties", the temporary loss of balance. She ultimately won an Olympic silver medal for the US team as well as a bronze medal on the balance beam. Her partial withdrawal, focus on safety, mental health and perseverance were recognized. The athlete is also five time World all-around champion (2013-15 and 2018-19) and five times World floor exercise champion (2013)-2015 and 2018-2019) Three times World balance beam champion (2014)-2015 and 2019) Two times World vault champion (2018) and was a member the gold-winning American teams in all four World Artistic Gymnastics Championships (2014 and 2015, as well as 2018, 2018 and 2019). She was also an World silver medalist on the vault and balance beam (2013 and 2014) in 2013 and 2014, and three-time World bronze medalist in vault (2015, 2013, and in 2018 on uneven bars). Biles is the world's most decorated gymnast (25) and the World's most gold-medalled (19). Biles has now surpassed Vitaly Scherbo, who holds the record for 23 World medals. Biles won both 24th and 25th gold medals at the 2019 Stuttgart competition. 8 She is also the only female gymnast with the highest number of World all-around championships (5). She's the sixth female athlete to win both an individual and team title in the Olympics or World Championships. Biles is the tenth first American female gymnasts to win a World medal in every event. The feat was made during the 2018 World Championships. Biles was born on March 14, 1997 in Columbus, Ohio, the third of four siblings.Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was incapable of caring for Simone and her three siblings - Adria, Ashley, and Tevin. All four went into and out of foster care. In 2000, Biles' maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles began temporary care for Shanon's children in the northern Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, after finding out that his grandchildren been placed in foster care. In 2003, Simone and Adria were adopted by the couple. Ron's sister Shanon's aunt Harriet adopted the two oldest children.
